I am a highly qualified practitioner of counselling and psychotherapy offering online and in person sessions in Woodford Green, East London.

Life can be hard sometimes, events and experiences can overwhelm us and leave us feeling lost, isolated or directionless. At such times reaching out for help can feel very difficult and it is important that your search leads you to someone in whom you feel you can trust. I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working in private practice in Woodford Green. People come to me with a wide range of needs, their struggles have included : depression, anxiety, sexual abuse , relationship difficulties , work difficulties, low self esteem, trauma , among other things. I approach my work with clients in an intuitive and instinctive way and seek to build trusting and empathic bonds with which create the foundations for a strong therapeutic relationship. This enables my clients to feel safe to explore difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences. Through this relationship we can also begin to understand how clients feel and respond to others with whom they share meaningful relationships: partners, parents or friends, so that we can explore what might be helpful in their ways of relating and what they might wish to let go of.

I often work with people who find themselves struggling to identify their true sense of self or people who find themselves directionless, not knowing who they really are or what they really want. I also often see people who feel burdened by expectation, some may be struggling with the choices they have made in life, others may feel unable to move forward because they are scared to make the choices that are in front of them. My aim is to ensure clients feel supported and safe to explore what is going on in their lives so that together we can identify and overcome barriers to growth and fulfilment and help build confidence and self-belief.

My main training is in the psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural modalities of therapy, however, I do not restrict myself by applying one particular modality when working with my clients. I use a flexible integrative approach which enables me to adapt how I work to meet the unique needs of each individual person. This approach is based on the belief that as therapists we create a new therapy for each of our clients, each relationship is unique, every journey takes its own path. You can learn more about how I work by clicking “ About therapy” link.

In order to continue to support clients during the pandemic I have undertaken training in online counselling with the Open University which was provided by the NHS. I find I am able to work equally well with clients remotely as when in person. If you would prefer to see me in person, information about how I ensure my clients remain safe during Covid are provided below.

About me

My counselling experience is both within the NHS delivering IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) services through the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the North East London Foundation Trust. I am also experienced in working in private practice delivering short term solution focused therapy as well as longer term relational therapy. In these settings I have helped people struggling with a broad range of difficulties including: depression, anxiety, psychological trauma, bereavement, sexual abuse, relationship difficulties , work problems, low self esteem and long term health conditions .

My background is in the fields of Human Resources and Equalities. Much of my past career has involved coaching people through challenging times, helping them to manage change and supporting them in their professional development. More recently I have worked within Parliament having been recruited to lead investigations into allegations of bullying, harassment and sexual misconduct following a review into claims of misconduct in Parliament that were raised following the “ Me Too” movement .

My work in Equalities enabled me to help people who felt marginalised or held back in life because of very difficult experiences they have endured for reasons relating to difference such as: race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or class. It was this work that led me to train in the field of counselling and psychotherapy, I wanted to help people explore and embrace all the parts of themselves and thrive as individuals.

Location

My practice is located in Johnston Road, Woodford Green, IG8 OXA.

Arrangements for staying safe during Covid.

I am continuing to offer face to face session to those who prefer it at Lily House and Forest Therapy Centre both of which are Covid Secure. I include here the section of the counselling agreement I share with my clients which sets out the arrangements to ensure we both protect ourselves.

There may however be times when we briefly must switch to remote sessions.

If either you or anyone in your household feels unwell and has symptoms which may indicate Covid we will stop in person sessions until they have received a negative PCR test. Symptoms of Covid are varied and appear to be changing over time so I would advise that you follow latest guidance on the NHS website.

I will commit to doing the same should either I or someone in my household exhibit symptoms.

If you decide it is necessary to switch to a remote session please can I ask you to notify me 48 hours in advance if possible so that our room booking can be cancelled.

If I conclude that I must switch to remote, I will aim to give you sufficient notice of the change.

We are again in a time of steep rise in infections and you may decide that even in the absence of symptoms you would be more comfortable switching to online sessions for a period. This can of course be accommodated, again I would ask for notice where possible as it may require some changes to scheduling.

On arrival for sessions, please wear a facemask until seated in the consulting room. In the room you will have the option to remove the mask if you are comfortable doing so, if you would like me to keep the mask on during sessions please ask.

As an additional safety measurement drinking water will not be provided in the consulting room, you are therefore advised to bring some with you if you feel you may need it.
